Officially introduced at the Paris Salon in October 1975, the 308 GTB’s styling was created by Pininfarina. The stunning two-seat coachwork was all new but incorporated all the old magic by blending aspects of the Dino 206/246 with the later 365 GT4/BB. Reminiscent of the Boxer was the dihedral groove at bumper level splitting top and bottom, the plunging nose and the sail panels reaching back to meet a shallower spoiler, while the conical side air intakes and recessed concave rear window were familiar from the Dino. The 308 was simply sublime in its appearance. The 308 GTB employed a tubular steel chassis with independent coil spring/wishbone suspension front and rear, complemented by anti-roll bars, adjustable dampers and powerful disc brakes. At its heart was a Formula One derived, all alloy, quad camshaft 3.0 litre V8 engine, allied to a transversely mounted five-speed gearbox.
Our vendor purchased this beautiful UK supplied 308 GTB in 2014 from DK Engineering, it has formed part of collection since but hasn’t seen as much use as he had hoped it would. The car is resplendent in Rosso Corsa over a Crema interior, both of which look superb. The history file is very impressive, with the owner’s manual and service book present, containing many stamps throughout the 1980’s, then plenty of invoices dating back to 1979 detailing regular maintenance and works over the years. The original bill of sale is in the file, as well as a record of 28 services, multiple cambelt changes and a bare metal respray in 2012. These early steel bodied carburettor fed cars are fantastic to drive, and only around 211 were built in right hand drive guise, which makes them rarer than most special edition modern Ferrari’s! Supplied to auction with a V5C registration document and an impressive history file containing a wealth of invoices, this 308 GTB looks like excellent value. Consigned by Fraser Smith
