The Alfa Romeo Gran Turismo Veloce (GTV) designed by Enrico Fumia at Pininfarina was planned to re-establish the sporty coupé tradition of Alfa Romeo for the 1990s. After the Fiat CEO accepted the design, Alfa Romeo Centro Stile was responsible for the completion of the detail work and also for the design of the interiors as Pininfarina's proposal was not accepted. A typical Italian design, low-slung, wedge-shaped with a low nose and high kicked up tail or 'Kamm tail' gave improved aerodynamics and, at its launch, many journalists commented that Alfa had improved the overall build quality considerably and that it came very close to equaling its German rivals. The GTV was indeed favourably received by the written press, winning awards such as Autocar Magazine's '1995 Car of the Year', Car Magazine's 'Best Designed Car' and in 1995 was awarded 'The World's most Beautiful Automobile' award.
A superb example of Alfa Romeo’s beautiful sports coupe showing 73,950 miles. Under the bonnet is the famous 3.0-litre 24-valve naturally aspirated ‘Busso’ V6, driving the front wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox with the excellent Quaiffe diff installed to suit. The engine bay and "Busso" 3. 0 litre 24 valve engine within is a sight to behold as should be expected of this and any other Alfa Romeo (see photos). This GTV has been largely kept in storage from 2018 until early 2023.
The car is finished to Lusso specification, with Blue Vela Metallic paintwork and the Blue Pack, comprising a blue dashboard with blue leather seats and blue/black door trims. Factory equipment includes air conditioning, electric windows and door mirrors complete with the correct 17-inch Tele-Dial wheels. The car’s only modification is a Wizard “cat back” twin pipe that we are told emits a wonderful "burble". Its original owner’s manuals and service book will be included, along with a collection of maintenance invoices and MOT certificates. We are informed the bodywork is in excellent condition with no rust but does have the odd and very hard to see scuff/stone chip. The alloy Tele-Dial wheels have been fully refurbished and finished in “Lamborghini Imola Bronze” which look superb against the Blue Vela body work as can be seen in the photos, also recent new discs/ pads and fully refurbished (in black) callipers. Toyo Proxes tyres were recently fitted with minimal mileage since. Rear suspension recently Poly-bushed. The throttle potentiometer and ECU has just been replaced (August 2024) by Alfa specialist and is now running as one would expect of these superbly powered Coupe's. Inside there is some very minor wear to the driver’s seat bolster, we are informed the leather throughout is in excellent shape.
The latest MOT test and full lubrication service has been completed at just under 74,000 miles and now runs until end of January 2025. In August 2024 the car benefit from a full health check and cam-belt change by Autolusso (Bournemouth) also at just under 74,000 miles is fully documented.
This Alfa Romeo GTV 3.0 V6 24V is an example of the renowned Italian coupe featuring the desirable ‘Blue Pack’ and supplied with a fairly comprehensive maintenance history. This stylish and now becoming very sought after V6 Italian sports car is ready to be cherished by its next keeper.
The car is currently located in Somerset.
